Surveillance equipment, smart thinking and some targeted research helped a Cincinnati woman catch her own stalker. Read her amazing story here.

A Cincinnati woman was stalked for four months by phone before she was able to help police identify the man behind the threatening phone calls. To protect herself Laurie Russo installed surveillance equipment in her home, reinforced all her windows and used deadbolts every evening. The police learned that the phone calls were usually coming from local gas stations, but by the time they arrived the stalker was always gone.

 

Russo took matters into her own hands and made a spreadsheet of the incoming phone calls and their corresponding gas stations. Every time she got a call she immediately phoned the gas station to see if the workers could see anyone. It finally worked and a gas station worked was able to get the license plate of the man on the premises at the time a call was made to Russo's house. Surveillance equipment viewed later showed the perpetrator using a pay phone at the exact moment Russo received the call.

 As for her stalker, Russo says she has "no idea" how she became a target. But the police - and even the judge on the case - said they were thankful for her help, Russo said. And she said she's grateful for their work, too.
"They couldn't have done more for me, patrolling the street more and just being there," she said.

Thanks to Russo's smart thinking and the gas station's well-placed security cameras, Thomas McComas is now behind bars and Russo can finally sleep soundly.
